New Moon INSIGHT

INSIGHT On Control vs. Trust

In recent INSIGHT sessions, a recurring theme has emerged: the tension between control and trust.

When life feels uncertain, many of us instinctively tighten our grip. We strategize, over-function, and reach for certainty in external feedback. Beneath these patterns lies a simple human longing: to feel safe, loved, and connected.

This was my primary mode of operation for the first half of my life. On the other side of cancer, I now meet those longing in entirely new ways.

The paradox is that control can soothe discomfort in the short term, yet it often breeds a quiet sense of isolation. Trust feels riskier because it invites vulnerability, and to truly reveal ourselves can bring up deep-seated fear.

Yet that vulnerability is what opens the door to connection, creativity, and a state of flow.

The invitation this New Moon, if it calls to you, is to loosen the illusion of control and root more deeply in trust. If that feels like too big a leap, simply being with what is, and allowing yourself to ponder the idea, might be the best medicine.

Trust is not passivity; it is the active choice to align our actions with what feels true rather than what fear dictates from the shadows.

INSIGHT New Moon Contemplation

Pause and Listen
Find a quiet space. Close your eyes. Take three slow, steady exhales. Ask yourself:

  • What am I gripping? Where is fear running the show?

Name and Reframe
Write one sentence naming what you’re ready to release, then reframe it as what you’re ready to invite. Example:

  • I release the need to control outcomes. I invite trust in timing and inner wisdom.

Anchor It in Action
Choose one simple action for the next two weeks that embodies your intention. It might be a phone-free walk, five minutes of silence after work, or saying “no” when your body says no.

Stay in Practice Together

Join our Wednesday Meditations on IG Live at 8:30 am PT to reinforce your intention in community. Week after week, we return to the same truth the moon whispers: darkness and light, contraction and expansion. These are not obstacles but the natural rhythm of life itself.

If this New Moon practice resonates with you, please share your insights, intentions, or reflections. If it feels more private, keep it close and let it quietly guide your next breath, your next choice, your next two weeks.

For those in New York, I’m thrilled to be going old school and teaching a two-hour Sunday practice at Kula SoHo on October 19. Details are here.

It will be a joy to practice together in person.

With love,
Kevin
